The Right to Information Act 2005, has been enacted by the Parliament and has come into force from June 15 2005. The Act provides for Right to Information for citizens of the country to secure access to information under the control of public authorities. The Right to Information Act 2005mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities,PIOs by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.The RTI provides access to the information which is held by or under the control of any public authority and includes the right to inspect work, documents, records, taking notes, extracts or certified copies of documents/records and certified samples of the materials and obtaining information which is also stored in electronic form.
All Universities and Colleges established by law made by Parliament or by State Legislature or by Notification by the appropriate Government or owned, controlled or substantially financed directly or indirectly by funds provided by the government shall come within the meaning of a public authority under this Act.
In observance of the Right to Information Act 2005, the following officers are designated as the Public Information Officer, and the Appellate authority of Government College, Tanur. The following Officers shall perform without fail the duties and responsibilities as envisaged under the Act. Each College shall have an Appellate Authority who shall be the Principal of the concerned College and a Public Information Officer who is selected by the Head of the Institution.The Appellate Authority will receive Appeals, directly or indirectly through the PIO as required under the RTI Act.Public authorities have designated some of its officers as Public Information Officer. They are responsible to give information to a person who seeks information under the RTI Act. The PIO shall scrutinise and provide required information to the queries received in the RTI.
